I had GREAT weekend

First of all, I love this time of year. I love the crisp air with the slight chill and the bronze brilliance of sunlight against the intensely blue sky. Autumn is the best.

My brother and my best friend came down to visit me and my guy Saturday and we took a LOOONG drive to Williamsburg, Va. To go to Busch Gardens (an amusement park where people walk around with open beer bottles, standing online to ride coasters that toss their stomachs into their throats -- yet no one pukes. Uncanny.)

First, I was worried that it would rain as the clouds were dark grey and there were no peeps of sunlight breaking through. And it was cold, cold as brick. And I was wearing a hoodie over a long-sleeved T like that would help.

We got there in the gloom, but it was great because the place was in full Halloween regalia, so the gloom added something to the phony cob webs, ghosts in the trees and plastic spiders creeping up the walls. We rode roller coaster (including my childhood favorite, the Loch Ness Monster and a new coaster, the Griffon, which dangled you over a 205 foot, 90 degree drop before plummeting toward the people walking below you. FANTASTIC).

We screamed as we races along metal tracks and bought pictures of our contorted faces. We ate popcorn. We ate caramel apples. We bought Pop Rocks. We ate cotton candy. We went project-style on a buffet (we only paid for one, but we sent my friend to pile the one plate high and then we spread it out on napkins and all ate. Frugality... In a somewhat vulgar way).

We went through a "haunted" maze of teen park employees dressed in mummies and reaching out and grabbing skittish little girls whose screams startled everyone.

It was so much fun We drove back singing along to my personal 80's hits mix (so I wouldn't fall asleep behind the wheel). I got a room for my brother and friend at a hotel not far from our apartment (we live in a studio and there was no room at the inn).

Sunday morning, we went to brunch at one of my favorite spots. I dropped my girl off at the airport, dropped my guy at home and hung out with my brother at the Museum of Natural History until it was time for him to catch the bus home. We walked the streets in the October chill with bright sunlight raining through the crunchy colored leaves still hanging from the trees.

My brother got on his bus and I got home, exhausted and satisfied, though my wallet was nearly $300 lighter.

But man, it was so worth it.

Okay, so itapos;s Monday morning, itapos;s freezing outside, my head hurts a little, and my back is sore from the hours of raking at my momapos;s house on Saturday. I come staggering in, plop down at the comp, and the two co-workers already here ask me how my weekend was.

Me: "It was long...we didnapos;t go anywhere this weekend."

Co-worker #1: "Oh, so it was a quiet weekend."

Me: "Not really...went grocery shopping, did loads of laundry, packed up stuff to ship, helped bake for the week, worked out, did photo commissions, went raking at my momapos;s house, cleaned up around the apartment..."

Co-worker #2: "Mustapos;ve been nice to have a quiet weekend..."

Me: "It wasnapos;t. It was very busy and Iapos;m pretty wrung out."

Co-worker #2: "Well, just you wait, it gets worse as you get older"

Co-worker #1: "Yeah, when I was your age, I had all the time in the world and now..."

Co-worker #2: "Thatapos;s the truth...you just wait..."

Me: "Yes, I know, and Iapos;m really sick and tired of hearing that. Helpful advice it isnapos;t."

Dead silence.

Monday morning cheer-up...FAIL.

Oy, whereapos;s my caffeine?

so i was on the subway around 8 oapos;clock the other night, coming home from my wills midterm. @ the jackson heights stop (i think) this lady (asian lady with a strong accent but able to speak some english) comes through the middle door. There were two individuals sitting across from me. it was a bench seat car, so a long bench seat btwn all the doors. Those two people were sitting at the end, with the female right next to the end of the bench against the bar. itapos;s late, so there are seats generally EVERYWHERE, almost empty car. those are the best. This asian lady is right next to the couple as she walks on and says, "i sit here"and points to WHERETHELADYISSITTING. remember, the car is EMPTY. So the couple look at her confused. (and so do i). She says "i sit here" and the lady is like, "iapos;m sitting here (duh)" then the asian lady FREAKSOUT she goes "no no no, i sit here" and the other lady is like"there are seats EVERYWHERE, i am sitting here, you canapos;t sit here and iapos;m not moving." from my point of view . . . There were seats everywhere and i found it odd she was asking to sit where someone else was seated:1. Itapos;s rude; 2. Itapos;s rude; 3. It just doesnapos;t make sense. so the asian lady turns her ass towards the lady sitting and says "i will sit on you" and the couple start yelling. the seated woman pushes the asian ladyapos;s ass away from sitting on her. then they start cursing at each other and the crazy lady starts say "ahh fuck it, fuck it." everyone on the car is puzzled at the asian ladyapos;s behavior. And this is my subway story for the week.

i presumed (and was correct) that she wanted to sit there because it was close to an exit on her actual stop. but come now.

I am not feeling ready but ready or not, it will soon be time With a borrowed GPS with a card to map England, maybe we (I) will even survive being a passenger in a car driven on the left side of the road. With a husband, ever confident, driving.

The adapter is purchased for laptop use in the evenings at the BB. The hair dryer with the DIFFUSER is packed for the daughterapos;s curly hair. Maybe now there will be some photos of her without a bandana The jeans that are all the most comfortable are packed. The ten extra pounds that have returned are also coming along. Hopefully, they wonapos;t find any new friends there. England is not known for its cuisine, is it? Ah, but we have daughters with apartments who can cook.

Weapos;re even meeting up with some Irish friends

Off to our adventure.

Itapos;s almost 11:30, which means itapos;s just about my bedtime, so i thought i would ask a bedtime question:

if you need something on while you fall asleep, what do you put on? music, tv, white noise, ocean sounds?

i usually have an episode of How I Met Your Mother going on my laptop while i fall asleep but sometimes i listen to music. Sometimes i listen to The Blood Brothers while i fall asleep o_O even i think thatapos;s weird.

You know why Idonapos;t make new friends?Because they always bite me in the ass.

Iapos;m thinking Iapos;m just going to return to Ann Arbor when the lease is up in the summer. It just seems incredible that I came up here thinking this was going to be the most awesome place and time ever, and it turned out to be the most miserable and boring of each.

I wanna run around downtown right now.Huddle on the diag with friends, hang out at Zap with Jeff, Aaron,Jeremy, and stay up all night at the lock-ins that I took for granted while I was there. I have some friends up here, but, theyapos;re all from high school, which only reminds me of how much Imiss AnnArbor. It canapos;t make up for all the memories Imiss.

This past weekend was a four day weekend (yay, for Columbus Day). So, I went down to Orange County to visit mi familia. To keep myself busy, I decided to organize my motherapos;s bathroom area, which has been a gathering area for old cosmetics, random mail, and office items over the past several years. My goal was to remove the clutter, simplify the area, and create a clean, relaxing, spa-like feel. Here are the befores and afters:

Before: Just look at that clutter. After: Hey I can see the counter

Before: Clutter up close. After: The bamboo tray and q-tip/cotton holder are new. My mom already had two ornate metal bowls.

Before: Are these office or bathroom drawers? After: Decidedly, bathroom drawers.

Before: Unruly medicine cabinet with minimal medicine. After: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors are now easy to find.

As a result of my organization, I got rid of an estimate 30-gallon volume of trash and removed a 25-gallon volume of old documents and mail and placed them in a separate bin. I hope my mom is OK with that. Also, during my sorting I found this item below. Can you guess what it is?

Answer: It is my brotherapos;s identification bracelet from when he was born The camera didnapos;t capture the writing, but it clearly says my momapos;s name and his birthdate "4/12/88." Crazy.
